Halloween

Halloween has just passed on the 31st of October and all the ghosts are still hovering over every one’s houses trying to haunt all the kids and parents. This year did you go tricker treating and get bucket loads of lollies and sweets? I couldn’t because I had to take my sister Kathryn to the airport. But that’s ok because I went last year with my friend and went tricker treating with her family. That was lots of fun. If you did this event what what did you dress up in. Did you dress up as a vampire, a ghost, a little Frankenstein or a dragon!!! Last year I dressed up as a black witch and so did my friend. I told my mum to get some lollies and chocolates just in case some kids came looking for lollies but no one came, but that means more lollies for us!!

Inanimate Alice

In class we are looking at Inanimate Alice. Our class are looking at a series of videos about a girl called Alice. there are 4 episode at the moment but soon there will be six. We have seen 1-3 episode and we will be seeing the 4 episode tomorrow. I am really enjoying Inanimate Alice and the episodes are really exciting and sometimes sort of scary. I also like how every time we watch it Alice is always moving to different countries like Russia. We had to get into a group and think of questions about the clip like how old would she be and why does she always move countries in every episode. First we had to read the first episode on a piece of paper which we thought was not that effective but then we watched the digital text that was on the computer. That was really effective. In the forth episode I think she will be 15 because she started of as 8 then went to 10 then went to 13, so you go up 1 more every time. I also think that she will be kidnaped because in the third episode the parents told her that she might be kidnapped.

Pedal Prix

Hi everyone,
Next weekend on Saturday to Sunday is our 24 hour pedal prix race at Murray Bridge, schools from all around Australia are coming for the event.
Pedal prix is a competitive sport. You ride a three wheel bike in a reclining position that means you are lying down but so you slightly sitting up. You have a brake, horn (when you over take), gears and steering leavers. Since we are racing at on the 24 hour race we need to have lights to see where we are going if our turn is in the middle of the night. Every bike need a roll bar, the roll bar sits on top of the bike in case you roll over so your head don’t get squashed.
In our team we have 15 students. We practice every Sunday morning 11:30am at Victoria Park race track, for half an hour each.
On the day we will be riding in a rotating roster we each have an allocated time slot. Mine is at 12:00 midday (first rider), 4:00pm, midnight and at 8:00am. We ride for half an hour each like on the Sunday practices. We have to wear a helmet, sunglasses and we get a T-shirt with all our names on the back.
I am really excited and I can’t wait to go!!

Story birds

Hi everyone,

Our class have been making some online picture books online. Our task was to make a book on any topic and to publish it and to put it on our blogs. My Story bird is called  Flipflop saves the day, it is suitable for any age. My story is about a bee called Flipflop and his friends have some trouble with some of their friends, so Flipflop helps each character and he saves the day. If you would like to make a story bird you can click on this : http://storybird.com/accounts/login/

Biodiversity Excursion

On the 7 th of May, three classes from our school went to the SA Museum, Art gallery and the Botanic gardens. We went there for our Biodiversity inquiry studies as part of our IB curriculum.

We all arrived at 8: 45 at the Blackwood train station, to catch the train to the Art Gallery in the city. When we arrived in the city, it was really noisy and crowded but we made our way out to North Terrece and headed towards the SA Art Gallery.

At the gallery we split up into 2 groups and made our way through the exhibition rooms to the biodiversity section. Our group leader was called Jill and she guided us around to all these different paintings by different artists. Most of the paintings we saw where made of dots or different patterns, it was amazing. Soon it was recess time and we sat outside on the grounds of the gallery. Then it was time to walk to the SA Museum.

Once our bags were stored we followed another guide, Chris, to a big room full of animals, landscapes and sea creatures. When we were there we got split up into 5/6 groups and each group got a little card. On it, we had to answer some questions about a specific animal. Our group had a card on ants and we had to watch a video on them. Then there was some sharing time of information we had discovered. Our time at the museum flew by and before we knew it was time to head along North Terrece to the Botanic Gardens for a snack.

After that we walked around as a large group for a while. We came across a large glasshouse with a giant pond with water plants growing on it. Beside the pond was a plaque and it said that these water plants give out a very nice perfume in the evening and this smell attracts beetles. After this we went to the plaza at the Festival Theatre for a very late lunch. We played there for a bit and then we all walked back to the Adelaide train station to catch the train back to Blackwood.  When we arrived some of us were collected by parents and the rest walked down the hill to Apex Park.

When I got back home my feet where a bit sore because we walked all around the city.

Bye Alice.

I.B Rotations

HI it’s Alice here,

How is everyone going so far at school? Well we have started I.B rotations! What is an I.B rotation? Well it is where 3 classes go around to 4 other classes to do different projects. You are put into a group with about 20 to 27 people from the 2 classes. I.B rotations goes for one term and you have a week or so in each class. We usually go every day after resses or lunch. We have already done our first rotation now we moved on to our second and it is our first day in the second rotation. But only the year fives, sixes and sevens do it. This is my second year of doing I.B rotations!!!!! By the way Zoe has got her own blog now so this will be my blog. If you want to go see Zoe’s Blog here is the link - zoe13.edublogs.org.

Bye for now

Alice!!!!! :)

Kris Cringle

Hey guys and girls, how is your week going? This week our class has been doing Kris cringle, but instead it’s a bit different. We’re making paper bags and putting 3 little gifts in our Kris cringle’s bag. Everyday we check our bags to see if we’ve got a present. At the end of the week we’re getting our big gift.

We’d like to know if your doing Kris cringle and what you’re doing for it. Hopefully you don’t have a boy like  do cause I have no clue what to get him and if your not doing Kris cringle then suggest it to your teacher because it’s is really fun!!!

Thanks’ for reading our post.

Seya,

Alice and Zoe.

End of year performance

Hey today it’s both of us, for once!!! We’re going to be talking about end of year performances. One of the questions I’m going to be asking is do you do end of year performances? If you do what are you doing this year and is it fun and are you having fun practicing? If not tell us the horrible problem what you don’t like. Sometimes we’re not all that happy with our performances. But this year we’re loving it!! We have been doing a celebration project so guess what we’re doing a dance with all different celebrations in it . The song we’re doing it to is Celebrate Good Times Come On… I Alice is in the Christmas group and Zoe here is in the Aussie group. We each had to make a dance routine in our groups. So please tell us how your performance is going and if you don’t have why don’t you suggest one for next year to your teacher! :)

Thanks for now,

Alice and Zoe.

Mini Chem

Hi everybody,

Today it’s just me Alice and I’m going to tell you about Mini chem.  A member of the CSIRO came to are school and taught us about chemistry. It was very interesting. We went around to different stations and had to complete the tasks. In Mini Chemthere were 7 tasks to do. The things that happened were: colour change, mini explosions, fizzing up and liquids separating. We all had lots of fun in our Mini Chem session. We would like to hear if the CSIRO came to your school.

If you are interested in science why not join the CSIRO Double Helix Club?

Bye for now. Alice!
